About the College

Kokrajhar Law College was established in 1985 as the sole legal education institution in the Bodoland Territorial Council region, Assam.

The founder, Advocate Late Niranjan Kr. Narzary, envisioned a regional centre for high-quality legal learning. His initiative was supported by generous community leaders including Late Mohani Mohan Brahma, Mr. Rabendra Nath Brahma, Mr. Anil Kr. Brahma, Mr. Dharmeswar Boro, Mr. Debo Prasad Guha, Late Naresh Das, Kishori Mohan Chaudhury and many others.

Over its operational history, the college has produced countless successful advocates, judges, magistrates, law officers, human rights activists, social justice lawyers, and state civil service officers who serve throughout Northeast India and beyond.

From the Principal's Desk

Dear Students,

On behalf of Kokrajhar Law College (KLC), I take the pleasure to receive and welcome each of you to our college. I also congratulate you for making the right decision to pursue legal education at Kokrajhar Law College. At the same time I can assure that 2026–2027 should be the year to educate for greater service in terms of academics, extra-curricular activities and discipline amongst the students, faculties and the College. The students will be given opportunities to learn a law course designed under Bodoland University — a step-wise learning path for building a better career in the field of law.

College wants the students to achieve excellence, as the goal of excellence is one of the keys to success — possible only if the student community and the faculty put in extra effort to explore the depth of legal education. Since its establishment in 1985, KLC has witnessed numerous transformations. Each outgoing batch has contributed in its own way to transform the college for the better and strengthened its reputation. Today we are fortunate to witness a better version of KLC, having strived to impart socially relevant and professionally designed legal education for the past 40 years in the region of BTR.

KLC solo stands as the only "Legal Education Centre" out of the 4 districts in BTR, of which we shall always remain proud to be a part.

KLC seeks to educate and produce more lawyers in the region of Bodoland, considering the standard of services that needs to be delivered in the 21st century. Legal education in India has undergone a change in the last two decades. In this era of globalization it is needless to state that studying law is no more an option or by chance — it has become "by choice". KLC intends to impart legal education to young minds as they are the future resource for providing speedy justice in the socio-economic and political fields.

KLC is also committed to delivering its best old-school methods along with technical legal education through its dedicated faculty members. Its friendly environment shall always encourage students to interact with the faculty for self-study and guidance in research-related work — surely an advantage for those willing to put in extra effort. The perception of learning among students will depend on the level of motivation, with an added flavour of expectations.

I am sure the new students coming in will have a memorable academic experience, participate in co-curricular activities like Moot Court, Legal Aid Camps and Seminars, and become the most knowledgeable of all. They will definitely make a difference to the world with their creativity and skills, guiding the coming days with progress and excellence. May all your dreams turn into reality by never compromising with ethics, moral values and good conscience.
